At the end of February 2023, the last of nine Panamax type vessels with coal was unloaded at the coal terminal in the port of Riga. Pro Logistic Services completed its mission to deliver coal to Poland from South Africa, USA, Colombia and Mozambique, using the infrastructure of the Port of Riga and the Latvian railways.

In April 2022, after the Russian invasion to Ukraine, Poland refused to buy Russian coal, although the full EU embargo did not come into effect until August 2022. By the beginning of the heating season, Poland was threatened by an energy crisis, and supplies from alternative markets were the only remedy to resolve it.

We are proud of our contribution to help Poland to overcome the energy crisis. The entire route whereby the coal was delivered to Poland was developed from scratch by Pro Logistic Services, and we had arranged for its implementation: agency of ships, transshipment in the port of Riga, cargo inspection, storage, provision of railway wagons, customs and transit of imported coal to the consumers.

So, the challenge of coal supply for the fall-winter 2022-2023 season is successfully completed.

Despite all difficulties along implementation, this project has proven its efficiency, and with resumption of the new heating season, we will make sure the route is live again, at a greater scale.
